Citizens and Corporations - Corporate Behaviour

Exploitation and environmental damage caused by corporations operating in the 3rd world is something most of us know about, though we may not care. Things are getting worse in Britain however.

There was a time when most directors recognised a moral duty separate from their legal duty to shareholders. Such moral restraint seems to be a thing of the past. Another restraining factor before corporations became so large was competition. There still is competition in the manufacture and retail of goods, but in the provision of services, which typically involves a lasting relationship between customer and supplier any apparent competition is illusory. Common practice is to insert unreasonably onerous conditions into the small print, and to enforce such conditions without restraint or mercy.
