The Local Dimension - Reactive Campaigns The first type of local campaign we consider is the reactive campaign against something that is perceived as bad for the community. Sometimes such campaigns can be deeply divisive, such as for and against a new bypass or a wind farm. In other cases the community can unite over the the loss of services. A classic example of this was the campaign launched in 2000 to try to protect Kidderminster General Hospital from the impact of a disastrous PFI project. This resulted in the election of Dr Richard Taylor as MP for Wyre Forest in 2001, and his re-election in 2005. The campaign organization, Health Concern, however, does not appear to be interested in campaigning against the PFI policy generally, let alone against the political system that spawned it.
